A name has been agreed upon for recommendation to the Ft. Smith Board of Directors for one of the new parks. The name of McGruder Park will be presented for the Board's approval for the park that will be located at the corner of Fianna Way & Ark 253. In 2014, the McGruder family donated the land for the park. According to Jeff Dingman, Ft. Smith Deputy City Administrator, the 2.5 acres was purchased by the family specifically to donate. Fianna Highlands Park, Ft. McGruder Park at Fianna and Stephens Mountain Park are some of the names that were suggested.
Due to the lack of suggestions from the public, the new park to be located at the southwest corner of the city limits on Texas Road, will not be named right now. It is being considered by commissioners to ask school students in the area to assist in naming the park.
