County To Receive Electronic Voting Machines

Sebastian County is set to receive 167 state-of-the-art electronic voting machines worth over $986,000.  They are one of four pilot counties in the state.  The quorum court voted in June, 10-1 in favor of the project.  The machines are courtesy of the office of Arkansas Secretary of State Mark Martin.  More will have to be purchased by the county if they intend to have a totally electronic voting system.

The recommendation of purchasing enough backup equipment and other materials so that the county will have 250 machines, was made by the Sebastian County Election Commission in a memo to the quorum court.  It will cost the quorum court $392,090 to fund the equip- ment to go totally electronic.
