Ft. Smith Man Drowns In Mulberry River

Bobby Ruth of Ft. Smith, drowned in the Mulberry River Tuesday afternoon just before 5 p.m.  According to the Franklin County Sheriff's Office, Ruth, 58, was overtaken by the current, while he was fishing north of Ozark near Milton Ford.  There was an attempt to save him by three people on the scene. A U. S. Geological Survey chart showed that at the time of the incident approximately 700 cubic feet per second was being discharged by the river level.

Wednesday, the body was sent to the State Medical Examiner's Office to determine if Ruth may have suffered a heart attack before the incident.  A family member said he did have some medical issues.
