Tragedy Strikes At Boy Scout Ranch

Ft. Smith Boy Scout Troop 3 attended a 70-mile camping trip to New Mexico.  They went to Philmont Scout Ranch near Cimarron New Mexico for 10 days.  However, while they were there, a storm went thru on Friday, June 26 causing a flash flood which traveled thru a can- yon on the ranch.

Brian Robinson and sons Will and Wyatt were with the Ft. Smith Troop.  There was hail and sleet covering the ground when they came out of their tents the next day.  They knew some- thing was wrong.  The Troop found out a couple of days later that 13-year old Boy Scout Alden Brock from California had died as a result of the flood.  Brock and three other scouts were swept away by the water.  The three boys survived, Brock did not.  Robinson said he doesn't think the other Troop realized the severity of their location or they would have moved their tents.
