Arrest Made In Connection With Deadly Shooting

According to Franklin County Prosecuting Attorney David Gibbons, on Tuesday, June 10th, 63 year-old Thomas Roy Barnes was arrested.  Barnes is charged on suspicion of fatally shooting his nephew, Joey Strickland.

The incident happened at Barnes' residence on School Road in Charleston on June 10th at 3:40 p.m.  Authorities were told by the suspect's wife, Brenda Barnes, that the two men had argued several times over the phone that day about rent money.  She said Barnes came into the house, got a firearm and went to the carport.  The police report states the wife said Strickland came to their home, after which she heard cussing, then a gunshot. 

Strickland was found in the carport with a small gunshot in the chest.  In the report, Barnes said the victim kept coming toward him, so he shot him.  His bail is set at $500,000.  Bar- nes is scheduled for a July 2nd court appearance.
