Dog Adoptions Temporarily Suspended by Human Society

According to a news release from the Sebastian County Humane Society, due to a puppy test- ing positive for canine distemper, the shelter will suspend dog adoptions temporarily.  It sta- ted that canine distemper is a "very serious and often fatal viral illness".  The virus is spre- ad by inhalation and can move to the lymph nodes, then to the blood and spreading to other areas.  It is not transmissible to cats.  JoAnn Barton, Executive Director of the Humane Society, said although the virus cannot be cured, it can easily be prevented by vaccination.

If anyone is interested in taking a dog to the shelter, Barton recommends waiting a few days or call to make an appointment.
