Floodwaters Receding In Okla & Ark

Floodwaters are slowly receding in northeastern Oklahoma and western Arkansas.  As of 5 p.m. Tuesday, the Arkansas River at Van Buren measured 29 feet.  Lee Creek near Van Buren was a little above 400 feet.  According to the National Weather Service in Tulsa, 401 feet is flood stage in that area.  Dennis Gilstrap, Emergency Management Director, said trailer parks near Lee Creek remain evacuated.

Lavaca Mayor Hugh Hardgrave said just outside the city limits near Shamrock Drive, several feet of floodwater had built up.  There was a stretch between Lavaca and Central City, near the property of a resident, that was still mostly submerged.  However, Hardgrave said the water had not reached the city.

According to Moffett Police Chief Riley Brooks, by Tuesday most of the water had receded in Moffett, with the exception of the entryway into town.  The National Weather Service in Tulsa is expecting the Arkansas River to be below flood stage by Saturday.
