Mercy To Cut Jobs In Ft. Smith

It was announced earlier by Mercy that between 300-350 positions across four states would be cut.  As part of that, 10 of those will be eliminated at Mercy-Ft. Smith.  The positions will be in different departments and services.  According to a news release, Mercy stated the eliminations are due to the lack of Medicaid expansion in most of the states they serve and the Affordable Care Act.

A total of 347 jobs have been eliminated throughout all Mercy facilities and services in Ark- ansas, Kansas, Missouri and Oklahoma.  The release stated that Mercy had almost 40,000 workers, which means the reduction is less than 1%.  178 of the total workforce are leader positions.
