Battalion Positions Reduced At Fort Chaffee

As part of the Department of Army's field artillery reduction, the 217th Brigade Support Battalion of the Arkansas Army National Guard has officially deactivated Alpha and Bravo companies at Ft. Chaffee.  A news release stated there will be 114 positions lost by the battalion as well as a reduction in support functions such as fuel storage and transporta- tion, supply sections, water purification and wheeled vehicle maintenance.

One company consisting of 113 soldiers will remain in the support battalion for the 142nd Field Artillery Brigade.  Opportunities were provided for the soldiers to fill open positions in other units of the 142nd Field Artillery, with some moving over to positions with Arkansas' 39th Infantry Brigade.
