Van Buren Fire Dept. Buys New Hazmat Truck

A new $67,000 hazmat truck was purchased by the Van Buren Fire Department Monday.  Funds from a federal Homeland Security grant were used to buy the 2015 Dodge Ram 5500.  It will replace the department's old hazardous materials vehicle.  According to Jerry McAdoo, Fire Chief, the new truck is better designed to haul their hazmat trailer and will give them more storage space.

After being re-outfitted, the truck used previously will function as a brush truck.  It will be used as an off-road vehicle to fight smaller fires, going to places where larger firefighting equipment are not able to access.  The balance of the $142,000 grant funded the purchasing of boots, detection devices, suits, as well as other equipment related to hazardous materials.
