Ft. Smith Voters Renew Street Tax

There was a special election held Tuesday, May 12 in Ft. Smith regarding the renewal of an existing street tax.  80% of the 6,267 ballots cast were for the renewal.  However, 56% were against putting 5% of that tax toward a trail system, while 44% were for it.

The City has plans for street-related upgrades, costing $136 million.  The supporters of the trail system will have to seek other ways to fund it.  The cost will be approximately $10 million.
