Residents Use Canoes In Neighborhood

Monday, as rain fell, many people left the Riverlyn Drive area in Ft. Smith, which is located right on the Arkansas River.  The road had a lot of flooding and was blocked off.  Richard Turner, a resident of the area, said "We've lived her for eight years and this is by far the worst of the flooding that we've seen."  The road was monitored hourly by Ft. Smith Police.

Tuesday canoes were used by homeowners to survey flood damage.  Chuck Fawcett, a resident for 27 years, said there was four feet of water in his driveway.  He estimates between $60-70,000 in damage has been done to his property.
