Mayor Gives Update On Flooding In Van Buren

Van Buren City Council was given an update on the situation of flooding in the city by Mayor Bob Freeman before their meeting Tuesday.  He said the Arkansas River water level in the Van Buren area was approximately 11 1/2 feet above flood stage as of 4:30 p.m. Tuesday.  It will begin to decrease, Freeman said, at a slow pace.  He is concerned about more flooding or further property damage due to more rain in the forecast.

So far, the only area that has had to be evacuated is campers at the RV park at Lee Creek Park.  David Martin, City Building Inspector, monitors weather patterns for the city.  He said in the month of May, Van Buren has received 14.48 inches of rain.
