Ft. Smith Fire Chief Retiring

On October 30, Mike Richards, Ft. Smith Fire Chief, will be retiring.  Richards has been in that position since 2009.  He has been with the department for over 32 years.  He stated in his letter of resignation that he will be working with the Fire Department staff, as well as other departments of the city to make the transition as smooth as possible.

Other city officials that have retired, or are going to, are Ray Gosack, City Administrator and City Finance Director Kara Bushkuhl.  Gosack retired in August after 16 years with the city.  Bushkuhl is planning to retire exactly 35 years from the day she was hired, which is on October 6.
