Ft. Smith Police Chief Requesting New Tasers

Ft. Smith Police Chief Kevin Lindsey is going to request approval from the Board of Direct- ors, in the 2016 budget, to purchase 150 tasers.  Currently, the department has 148 tasers which are five years old and are at the end of their life-cycle, Lindsey said.  The cost of the latest model of Tasers would be approximately $2,300 each.  The new ones would record video in HD and in color.  The ones currently being used record in black and white.  Audio is recorded by both models.

A 5 year lease-purchase plan is what Lindsey is purposing.  For the first year it would be at the cost of between $250,000 - $300,000.  Then, approximately $47,000 over the remaining four years.
