Top Paralympic Sprinter Comes To Ft. Smith

On Monday, August 31 Jerome Singleton, the top Paralympic sprinter in the world, was in Ft. Smith.  He lives in Boston, but came to Ft. Smith to work with Francois Van Der Watt, who is with Total Rehabilitation, Inc.  Van Der Watt made sure that Singleton's prosthetic leg is in perfect condition.

Singleton has won many titles. In 2011, he won the 100 meter world championship, beating Oscar Pistorius who, at that time, hadn't lost a race in seven years.  Singleton was born with a defect.  His tibia didn't grow all the way, causing him to not have an inner ankle bone.  His leg was amputated when he was one and a half years old.

Van Der Watt and Singleton are getting ready for the world championship in October.  This weekend, they are going to California to a training camp.
