New Greenwood Police Dept. Near Completion

By the end of the month, the Greenwood Police Department will be moving into their new facility.  The department first started out in a remodeled house, then they moved into City Hall, where they have been for approximately 10 years.  Captain Richie Wolford said they will now be able to place people in one of two new holding cells, instead of handcuffing them to a bench in City Hall.

The new building will also have an evidence room, a refrigerated area for different biological specimens that may need to be submitted and a $4,000 fingerprint fuming station, which they do not have at their current location.  A 20-year quarter cent sales tax is paying for the new facility.  The fuming station was funded by a grant.  The date set for employees to start working at the new location is September 21.
