The body of Dennis Donaho, a farmer near Spiro, surfaced Wednesday at 9:30 a.m. in the Poteau River, approximately 100 yards from his submerged tractor, according to LeFlore County Sheriff Rob Seale. Donaho had been missing since around 5 a.m. Monday, May 11, when he drove his tractor to go check on his cattle which were on land near the river.
According to an Oklahoma Highway Patrol report, apparently Donaho attempted to swim to safety after his tractor stalled in the high water. Highway Patrol Troopers recovered the body, which has been sent to the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner in Tulsa for an autopsy.
Donaho's farm is located near Race Track Road near Spiro. He was 60 years old.
