The continuation of a 1% sales tax was approved Tuesday, May 12 by voters in Crawford County. It has been in place for sixteen years and will now stay in place for another eight years. The total sales tax in Crawford County is 10.25%. There has been a little over $6 million per year generated over the past eight years by the sales tax.
Each city in the county receives a portion of the sales tax. According to John Hall, Crawford County Judge, the amount received is based on population. 55 to 60% of the tax money is received by cities, with the county receiving the remaining 45%. The county uses their part for general fund, public safety and roads.
