At 6:28 p.m. Sunday, the Ft. Smith Fire Department responded to a call at Betsy's Antiques & Gifts at 615 Garrison Avenue. According to Tery Graves, Battalion Chief, it was a small fire and was extinguished in approximately five minutes. It began on the left side of the shop, at the bottom of a wall.
Graves said the business was not considered a total loss. However, there was approximately $20,000 in damage to both the contents and the building. While crews were putting out the fire, a block of Garrison Ave between 6th & 7th Streets was closed to traffic.
The fire possibly was electrical in nature. It is under investigation.
