Greenwood School Murder-Suicide Plot Intercepted

Thursday May 7, authorities in Greenwood were able to intercept a murder-suicide plot at East Hills Middle School.  According to the Greenwood Police Department, a 13 year-old student was intercepted by authorities and was placed in a mental health treatment facili- ty.  The plot involved the 13 year-old, as well as three other students.

The following statement was released by the Greenwood School District:
"We would like to commend the student who actively responded with his knowledge regard- ing another student's potential actions.  In addition, we acknowledge the quick response by the school administrator to ensure the safety of all students.  Our school resource officers worked with the Greenwood Police Department and school administration to cover all aspects of this incident.  We are pleased with the procedures that were followed to diffuse a poten- tial situation at the East Hills campus.  It is our intent to protect all staff and students through continued training regarding crisis intervention and investigation in the future."

The investigation is on-going.
