The completion of a splash pad downtown Ft. Smith is getting very close. Doug Reinert is hoping it will be finished by the end of this month so that a grand opening can be held in June. The pad is being constructed at Compass Park next to the Park at West End. It is designed to have spray features, as well as ten fountains with LED lighting. The water will be treated and re-circulated.
The cost of the project is an estimated $335,000. Funds from a portion of sales tax will supply $150,000 of the cost. According to the City, private donations thru the Central Business Improvement District in the amount of $150,000 will be used, with the $35,000 balance coming from capital outlay which was dedicated for development of downtown.
