The City of Barling experienced a major waterline break last week, after which they receiv- ed complaints from residents regarding lack of communication of the situation. It had been said by a resident that the only thing they had was a phone number to call and that was the Police Department's number.
Mike Tanner, City Administrator, later responded to the issue. He said "We have an auto- dialer system on our utility software, but there were so many calls that, for lack of a better word, it blew it up." They are working on obtaining a better auto-dialer, Tanner said. Also since the break, they have created a Barling Facebook. He said the City already had a web- site. However, at the moment, it is just a blank page.
According to Tanner, in the next five years, the City plans to replace the twenty-two feet of waterline that runs along Highway 22. The original asbestos cement pipe was installed in 1968.
