According to Battalion Chief Boyd Waters, CPR was administered to a 62 year-old, who was inside the unit. The man was then transported to Mercy Hospital, where he later died. His name has not been released.
The victim had used a home unit oxygen machine to assist with his breathing. It was not the type that used bottles. The apartment manager stated the victim had terminal cancer. Waters said the exact cause of the fire has not yet been determined and that it is under investigation.
Furniture inside the apartment was damaged, he said. However, there was no structural damage to the apartment complex.
