Ft. Smith Director Defends Size Of Waterpark

During a community meeting, defense of the size of Parrot Island Waterpark took place after some comments were made by citizens.  One comment was that the water park was "no big- ger than a bathtub."  Another was that, several times, capacity of the park had been reach- ed.

Kevin Settle, At-Large Director, responded that the facility would cost too much to run if it had been built too large.  He said Parrot Island, for this area, is a huge park with a capacity of 1,800 people, in and out of the water.  Settle went on to say that it is the only place that has a wave pool, besides Little Rock.  The facility also contains the tallest slides in Arkan- sas, free-standing at 42 feet.  The $5 million aquatics center was open to the public over the Memorial Day holiday weekend.
