Organization Hosts Free Food Giveaway

Thousands of families went to the Martin Luther Park on Saturday, August 15 to receive help with groceries.  The food giveaway, called Antioch in the Park, was held by Antioch for Youth & Family.  This was their third and final one for the year.  This is actually the first year for them to hold the event.

More than forty-five pounds of food was given to each family.  An average of 3,000 people came out to each giveaway, according to organizer Charolette Tidwell.  Most of the food given away is purchased by Tidwell.  However, some comes from donations and thru the collaboration with various organizations.  She plans to make this an annual event each summer.  They will be held the third Saturday of June, July and August.

According to their Facebook page, the organization provides supplemental assistance and youth development services in the Greater Ft. Smith area.
