Rattlesnake Canyon Road at the Ft. Chaffee Joint Maneuver Training Center is now reopen- ed to local civilian traffic. It was closed to public access from May 8th to August 11th while summer training was in session. There were safety concerns due to the high volume of mili- tary traffic, which would cause extremely dusty conditions.
The almost four-mile area that was closed was on the eastern perimeter of the base. Area residents use that part of the road as a convenient way to get from Arkansas 10 to Arkansas 22.
During most of June and July, there were more than 4,000 active soldiers and Department of Defense contractors training at the Center.
