The Higher Learning Commission reaffirmed the University of Arkansas-Ft. Smith's accreditation for ten years. They also approved their Master of Science in Healthcare Administration program. According to Dean Carolyn Mosely of the College of Health Sciences, students will be prepared for such jobs as running a long-term care facility, president of a hospital or director of nursing.
Chacellor Paul Beran said "I would equate it to the equivalent of building a building, in a sense of the impact it is going to have on what we can do with our curriculum, on how we can expand as an institution, on how we can serve the population here in the River Valley and the greater Ft. Smith region." This accreditation allows a university to receive federal funds and ensures credits will transfer to other accredited institutions.
