11 lbs Of Meth Found During Traffic Stop

At approximately 3 p.m. Wednesday, Ft. Smith Police stopped Jose Mendez near the inter- section of N. 11th & N. 'A' Streets for speeding.  He was driving across the Garrison Ave bridge going around 50 mph.  The speed limit on the bridge is 35 mph.

Mendez, 37, told officers he was returning to his home in Ft. Smith from California.  Accord- ing to a news release, it was noticed by police that there was no luggage in the car.  It also stated Mendez became "noticeably nervous".  He gave permission for his vehicle to be sear- ched by a K-9 officer.

Police discovered eleven 1-lb packages of methamphetamine in the dash of the Toyota Sola- ra.  Mendez was arrested and booked without bond, according to jail officials.  He faces charges of possession of methamphetamine with the purpose to deliver 10-200 grams and possession of drug paraphernalia.
