The suspect in the crashing of a Greenwood patrol car into a gas well Tuesday, has been identified. She is 23 year-old Jessica Sterling. Police were called to a home on Dogwood Street in regard to a domestic dispute. Sterling fled in her vehicle, taking officers on a high-speed chase. She proceeded down S. Coker Street where she drove into a fence, at which time police apprehended her.
Due to her being aggressive, they had to secure her wrists behind her back, according to Police Chief Will Dawson. She was then placed into a police car, where she managed to slide the glass window open and get into the driver's seat. Sterling took off, eventually crashing into a gas well, turning the patrol car over and causing a gas leak. Dawson said she was trying to get an assault rifle out of a locked gun box when officers arrived.
She is facing several charges including DWI and theft of property. No one was in danger from the gas leak and were not evacuated from the area police said.
