Free Sand/Sandbags For Ft. Smith Residents

Free sand and sandbags are being provided for Ft. Smith residents by the City.  People can get them by going to the Street Department which is located at 3900 Kelley Hwy.  Their hours are 7 a.m. to 5 p.m Monday - Friday.  However, according to Greg Riley, Department Direct- or, they will open it up on the weekend if the weather is bad and a lot of flooding is receiv- ed.

One resident on Riverlyn Drive, Okla Smith, was concerned about people coming into his neighborhood and entering the houses that have been vacated.  He said one of the biggest issues is people that drive through looking at the floodwaters.  However, a policeman has been stationed on the street.  Riverlyn Drive is one of the hardest hit areas during the first round of flooding.

The sand and sandbags are for Ft. Smith residents only.
