Two calls went out around 3:30 a.m. Monday morning regarding house fires in Van Buren. The first one was located off Rena Road. A charcoal grill on the deck at the back of the house was the cause, fire crews said. The flames climbed up the back of the house and proceeded into the attic. According to Van Buren Firefightrs, none of the fire detectors went off in the home. The homeowner saw the fire when he got up to let his dog out.
A massage chair in the dining room was the cause of the second house fire, which was located in the neighborhood of River Overlook. The family was awakened by their fire alarms, after which they called 911. The man living in the home was able to put out the fire himself for the most part using a hose and fire extinguisher.
No one was injured in either house fire.
