A "Topping Off" ceremony was held Friday for the proposed Arkansas College of Osteopathic Medicine, with a hundred people in attendance. The facility is located at Chaffee Crossing, with the cost being $32 million and will be 102,000 sq ft. Construction has been underway for three months and according to Rob Dodd, Senior Project Manager for Nabholz Construc- tion, every scheduled concrete pour, milestone and date has been accomplished. The com- pletion of the college is projected to be in April of 2016.
The first 150 students will graduate from the Arkansas College of Osteopathic Medicine in five years. The shortage of doctors is expected to grow as the number of Americans older than 65 nearly doubles by the year of 2025, according to the Association of American Medical Colleges. Kyle Parker, President and CEO of the Arkansas College of Health & Education, states that western Arkansas and eastern Oklahoma make up the 48th most under served region of the U. S.
