Lake levels are high in northwest Arkansas after tremendous amounts of rain has fallen dur- ing the past month. Chief Park Ranger at Beaver Lake, Michael Hurley said the floodgates at the dam are less than a foot away from being opened. The generators are what he says have kept the water at level.
The Corps has had to close 120 campsites so far. Included in those is Horseshoe Bend. Hurley said the debris that is currently on many of those campsites and shores could be a hazard for boats later in the week. As the water rises, it can carry the debris on out into the lake, becoming very dangerous for boaters.
