Sebastian County has become one of four pilot counties in the state to receive voting equip- ment at no cost to county voters. The equipment is worth $986,000. It comes from a vot- ing system grant fund from the office of Mark Martin, Arkansas Secretary of State. The system will be secure and more user friendly. Information will be processed faster because of the new machines and software. There will be 167 machines allotted to the county in the move, with the Secretary of State's office paying for one year of maintenance.
The quorum court will be required by the move to consider additional money in the amount of $381,000 that would go toward buying enough backup equipment and other material to give the county 250 machines. By doing so, the county would be able to go completely elec- tronic.
