Teachers Needed In Fort Smith School District

Although there was a gain of almost fifty teachers in the Ft. Smith School District, there  was a loss of twenty-one.  Resignations from the twenty-one teachers were accepted by the School Board on June 22.  The school district has approximately twenty positions that need to be filled for the 2015-2016 school year. 

Some of the resignations were due to spouses taking jobs in other states and some were from teachers deciding to stay home with newborns.  The total number of employees with the district is around 1,940.  $37,500 is the base salary for Ft. Smith teachers.  This did not change due to the decision approved in April, which was made in part to historically low local assessments.
